Is Love Blind?

Is Love Blind?  Julie Sheppard

You have heard the saying that love is blind. I recently came across something that caused me to think about this saying as more than an excuse for allowing hurtful or destructive behavior of one we love. This then made me think about how much God loves us.

John 3:16 (NKJV)

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

God sent His Son, Jesus to this earth, to pay the price for our sins. The price was His life. Both the Father and the Son knew that Jesus would not be coming to live a life of royal comfort. He came knowing that He would be ridiculed, rejected, hated, beaten, abandoned, and crucified. He did this to show us how much He loved us. He knew who we are and about all the sins we would commit. He was not blind. He also could see more than our outward appearance and behaviors. He sees the motives of our hearts. He came giving sight to those who believe.

John 9:39-41 (NKJV)

39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”

40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”

41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.

God who is love can clearly see us. He knows you and me better than we know ourselves.

Romans 5:8

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God is not blind. He sees all and knows all. Yet He still loves us. He is patient and long suffering. Waiting patiently for us to turn from our sins and repent.

2 Peter 3:9English Standard Version (ESV)

9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,[a] not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

God is not blind and God is Love, so love, real love is not blind. For you see, God loves us and sees us clearly. His love is perfect even though we are not and He knows that.  Love does not mean that we overlook the flaws in each other. It means we love each other in spite of our many flaws and wrong doings. This does not mean that we continue to do what is wrong once we receive His love or that we condone wrong behavior in those we love(this is another topic which we will discuss at a later time).

Romans 6:1-2 (ESV)

6 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

Just because you love someone does not mean that they will return the love. If you do receive His love and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior and repent of your sins, He will forgive you because He already loves you. You will need to turn from living a life of sin to show you have truly repented. For those who have already received Jesus as your savior you already know this, but for those of you who say you know Him and still live according to your own flesh and your own desires, I suggest now is the time to truly repent. He still loves you but He will not allow sin to enter into His home.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NKJV)

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
