Allegiance is defined as follows:

1. the loyalty of a citizen to his or her government or of a subject to his or her sovereign.
2. loyalty or devotion to some person, group, cause, or the like.

Many people pledge their allegiance to the republican Party, while others choose to pledge their allegiance to the Democratic Party. Over the past few football seasons, many have battled over their allegiance to the NFL players’ protest vs other people’s allegiance to saluting the US Flag.
