Most people do not recognize this is happening to someone they know for multiple reasons. The person who deals with depression or Winter Blues may be very good at wearing a mask and concealing what is going on inside, end even when asked they simply answer ā€˜I am fine, or I am okayā€™ even when they know they are not. They either do not want to burden another with their problems or they do not want to come across as weak or less of a person. This list goes on as wellā€¦

An old man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, ā€œI hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing, forty-five years of misery is enough.ā€ ā€œPop, what are you talking about?ā€ the son screams. ā€œWe canā€™t stand the sight of each other any longerā€ the old man said. ā€œWeā€™re sick and tired of each other, and Iā€™m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her.ā€ And he hangs up. Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. ā€œThereā€™s no way theyā€™re getting a divorce,ā€ she shouts. ā€œIā€™ll take care of this.ā€ She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, ā€œYou are NOT getting divorced! Donā€™t do a single thing until I get there. Iā€™m calling my brother back and weā€™ll both be there tomorrow. Untilā€¦

This time the woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention to the road and the next intersection to see what was going on. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was definitely red andā€¦

Ungrateful

My God, My Music, My Life

I walked by him at least twice a day. Ā More often than not it was closer to six times a day. He was always in the same spot, always wearing the same clothes and always staring down at the ground.

Anytime that I would walk by and I had some change I would drop it in his hat. He would never look up. He never said thank you. As a matter of fact, I never heard him say anything. I was usually on the go or on my phone or talking to my co-workers so I might not have heard him if he did, but I really donā€™t think he did.

After a few weeks of dropping change, I decided to do an experiment. I started off dropping one dollar bills in his hat. Ā When he didnā€™t react I started dropping fives. Then I would drop a ten spot hereā€¦
