Just the way you are/a song and a message

I woke up to this song in my head this morning and it was like God was singing to me. If you have read any of my previous posts inspired by songs you can see how often the words of a song can remind me of God, His love and His Word. They do not have been songs of faith or labeled Christian, but just as His Word says the power of life and death are in the tongue.
In this song the lyrics spoke to me of His love for me and even reminded me of the hymn ‘Just as I am’. I am thankful that Jesus did not wait for me to get my act together before sacrificing His life so that I could be forgiven and redeemed. This song reminds me of that love and how He longs for us to not just believe in Him but love Him as He loves us. His love will transform us but we don’t have to wait to be perfect to receive His love, it is already there waiting for us.

“Just The Way You Are” lyrics / Billy Joel

Don’t go changing, to try and please me
You never let me down before
Don’t imagine you’re too familiar
And I don’t see you anymore

I would not leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times
I’ll take you just the way you are

Don’t go trying some new fashion
Don’t change the color of your hair
You always have my unspoken passion
Although I might not seem to care

I don’t want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are

I need to know that you will always be
The same old someone that I knew
What will it take till you believe in me
The way that I believe in you

I said I love you and that’s forever
And this I promise from the heart
I couldn’t love you any better
I love you just the way you are

I don’t want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are

Writer(s): Billy Joel /Billy Joel wrote the song for his first wife Elizabeth Weber. He told the Today Show in 2005, “It was written about somebody who said, ‘I said I love you and that’s forever.’ It lasted about 10 years.”
“Just The Way You Are” is the lead single from his fifth studio album. The song became Billy Joel’s first “Gold” single in the USA.

  1. Julie, I really love how you connect music to our Heavenly Father. Don’t go changing! Yes! As an avid music lover, very eclectic, I often parallel the words to my relationship with Christ. Many blessings as well sing out our souls to him! 🎶🎶💕
