Disrespect! How Could They Do This?

I live in the USA a country built on freedom. So people have the freedom to say what they want, but you cross the line when you purposely disrespect another human being. When I watched a news clip on high school cheerleaders inviting World War II Veterans to a high school football game in Pennsylvania only to protest the National Anthem knew they were disrespecting these men. These girls made them a captive audience, and broke the hearts of these veterans who served this country risking their lives fighting to protect the lives of others. They were drafted! Most did not have a choice, even though there were many who joined the military willingly. They left families and loved ones behind to go and fight on foreign soil. Now years later, these girls whose parents probably were not even born during this war are protesting something they do not even understand!

Here is the link to the video and article I watched.

SHAME! WW2 VETS Invited To Football Game…Cheerleaders Take A Knee During National Anthem [Video]

The video infuriated me. What kind of world do we live in that disrespecting our elders is okay? I was raised to say ‘Yes sir, or Yes ma’m’. We respected our elders and our service men and women who serve in our military, we respected our flag, the National Anthem, and our country. Now people have no problem stomping on the flag or burning it, and now thanks to a certain football player kneeling to protest our National Anthem, others are following in his steps. These girls however did not just disrespect the Anthem they disrespected these men with intent of doing so. Why invite these veterans if they were going to do this? They didn’t invite veterans of more recent wars but World War II veterans who are elderly and could not just get up and leave. Seeing the tears in the eyes of the men shown in this video broke my heart as well as enraging me. I know there are those who support this kind of behavior, who hide behind the right to free speech, but to me this is not what this freedom was intended to protect. This was an act of hate, even though they say it is a peaceful protest. Yes they did not physically harm these men but they did wound them. They do not know what these men lived through, even I do not know since I was not there. I do know that they fought to protect my freedom even though they did not know I would ever exist. I doubt that they will ever apologize for their actions but I pray that one day they realize what they have done is cruel and they have hurt men who did not deserve this.

Scriptures on respect

Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Philippians 2:3  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

Titus 2:7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness

1 Peter 2:17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

1 Corinthians 10:33 even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

Romans 13:1-7 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

  1. Amen! It’s maddening, isn’t it? We used to understand these things, to have more respect for one another. Now our own offense our own protests take precedent over everything else. We’ve grown very self absorbed and it’s just not good.

    1. Thanks for reading and for your comment. I am torn between anger and heartbreak. we live in such a broken world and I know from studying love in 1 Cor. 13, that love is not easily angered but this makes me angry, and not just because I have family members who have served in the military. I may not like every person I have ever met, but I was taught to respect others especially my elders. If my mother was still around she would tell me to stop watching the news, but I cannot pretend that wrongs are being done every day. Yes the news is filled with terrible acts being done here and through out the world. I also understand that this is a sign of the times we are living in.
God bless you and your loved ones and pray that our faith does not waver, and that His love continues to grow and overcomes the hate in this world.
